Observing chimney performance during normal cooking provides useful information about airflow efficiency. Smoke should move steadily toward the chimney intake without lingering around the cooktop. If extraction appears weaker than expected despite clean filters, further inspection of ducting, motor operation, or external ventilation may be appropriate.
Inspection of grease build-up and filter condition
Baffle/mesh filter removal and deep degreasing
Motor housing and duct-mouth cleaning
Auto-clean function check (if applicable)
Filter refitting and suction test
Final wipe-down and odour check
Baffle filters use multiple curved metal panels that force cooking fumes to change direction repeatedly. As airflow changes direction, heavier grease droplets separate from the moving air and collect inside the filter instead of entering the motor. This mechanical separation process allows baffle filters to perform effectively during heavy Indian cooking where oil and grease production is relatively high. Regular washing helps maintain airflow and grease separation efficiency.

Grease filters are designed to capture airborne oil droplets before they reach the blower and motor assembly. During everyday cooking, hot oil particles rise with smoke and steam. Without an effective grease filter, these particles can settle on the blower wheel, motor housing and internal electrical components. Over time, grease deposits increase airflow resistance, make cleaning more difficult and may reduce extraction efficiency. Regular cleaning of the grease filter helps keep internal components cleaner, allowing the blower to maintain smoother airflow while reducing unnecessary maintenance requirements. Although the motor never comes into direct contact with cooking oil, keeping the grease filter clean plays an important role in protecting the entire ventilation system.
