The motor rotates a blower wheel that generates negative pressure inside the chimney housing. This pressure difference draws smoke and cooking fumes through the filters before directing them into the exhaust duct. As filters become dirty or ducts become restricted, the motor must overcome greater resistance to maintain airflow. Keeping the air path clean allows the motor to operate more efficiently while maintaining consistent smoke extraction during cooking.

The outdoor duct outlet should allow smoke to leave the building freely without directing exhaust back toward windows or enclosed spaces. A well-positioned outlet supports continuous airflow while reducing the possibility of smoke re-entering the home. Installers also ensure that the outlet remains accessible for future inspection and is protected from debris accumulation where practical.
