Professional chimney maintenance involves more than washing visible filters. Technicians inspect airflow, mounting stability, duct condition, electrical connections, blower operation, grease accumulation and overall ventilation performance. Evaluating the complete system helps identify developing issues before they significantly affect smoke extraction. Combined with routine homeowner maintenance, periodic professional inspection supports consistent performance, cleaner kitchen conditions and reliable operation over the long term.
Inspection of grease build-up and filter condition
Baffle/mesh filter removal and deep degreasing
Motor housing and duct-mouth cleaning
Auto-clean function check (if applicable)
Filter refitting and suction test
Final wipe-down and odour check
The journey of cooking fumes begins above the cooktop, passes through the grease filters, enters the blower housing, travels along the exhaust duct and finally exits through the outdoor vent. Every component along this path influences overall chimney performance. Dirty filters, poorly designed ducting, blocked outlets or inadequate maintenance can reduce airflow even when the motor itself operates normally. Looking at the complete airflow path rather than individual components provides a better understanding of how kitchen chimneys achieve efficient smoke extraction and why regular maintenance remains an important part of long-term performance.

Grease does not collect only on the removable filter itself. Small deposits can gradually accumulate around the surrounding frame, support channels and filter locking mechanism. Cleaning these areas during routine maintenance helps maintain smooth filter installation and prevents hardened grease from affecting normal operation. Gentle cleaning methods appropriate for the chimney finish help preserve both appearance and functionality.
