Most modern kitchen chimneys use energy-efficient LED lighting to illuminate the cooking surface. LEDs generate less heat than conventional bulbs while providing bright, even lighting over the cooktop. During routine servicing, technicians may verify switch operation, light output and electrical connections to ensure the lighting system continues operating correctly. Good lighting improves visibility during food preparation and helps monitor smoke generation while cooking.

Cooking generates both smoke and water vapour. Steam naturally rises because of temperature differences, while smoke particles are carried within moving air. A kitchen chimney removes both by creating controlled airflow above the cooking surface. During heavy boiling, visible steam may briefly spread beyond the intake area before being extracted, especially if surrounding airflow is disturbed. Proper installation and adequate ventilation help improve the removal of both smoke and steam.

Aluminium ducts are widely used because they are lightweight, corrosion resistant and relatively easy to install. When properly supported and routed with minimal bends, aluminium ducts provide effective airflow for most residential kitchen chimneys. During installation, technicians ensure that duct joints are secure and that the duct remains free from crushing or unnecessary compression that could reduce airflow.
