Airflow restrictions often develop gradually rather than suddenly. Slower smoke removal, stronger cooking smells, or increasing fan noise may all indicate that filters or ducting require attention. Identifying these early signs allows maintenance to be scheduled before extraction performance declines significantly.
Inspection of grease build-up and filter condition
Baffle/mesh filter removal and deep degreasing
Motor housing and duct-mouth cleaning
Auto-clean function check (if applicable)
Filter refitting and suction test
Final wipe-down and odour check
Whenever a kitchen chimney removes air from the room, fresh air must enter to replace it. Without replacement air, airflow efficiency gradually decreases because the chimney cannot maintain the required pressure difference. Opening a nearby window slightly or ensuring natural ventilation can improve smoke removal, particularly during extended cooking sessions. Balanced ventilation supports both chimney performance and indoor air quality.

The blower inside a kitchen chimney rotates at high speed to move smoke through the ventilation system. If grease accumulates unevenly on the blower wheel, its balance may change slightly, increasing vibration and operating noise. Professional servicing includes inspection of accessible blower components to ensure smooth airflow and stable operation. Keeping filters clean also helps reduce the amount of grease reaching the blower.
