Grease does not collect only on the removable filter itself. Small deposits can gradually accumulate around the surrounding frame, support channels and filter locking mechanism. Cleaning these areas during routine maintenance helps maintain smooth filter installation and prevents hardened grease from affecting normal operation. Gentle cleaning methods appropriate for the chimney finish help preserve both appearance and functionality.
Inspection of grease build-up and filter condition
Baffle/mesh filter removal and deep degreasing
Motor housing and duct-mouth cleaning
Auto-clean function check (if applicable)
Filter refitting and suction test
Final wipe-down and odour check
Kitchen chimney performance usually changes gradually rather than suddenly. Reduced airflow, slower smoke removal, increased operating noise or stronger cooking odours often develop over weeks or months. Recognising these early signs allows maintenance to be scheduled before performance declines significantly. Addressing small issues promptly generally simplifies servicing and helps maintain efficient operation.

Smoke generated during cooking does not rise in a perfectly straight line. It spreads outward while mixing with hot air, steam and airborne grease particles. Ceiling fans, open windows and room ventilation can also change its direction. A properly installed kitchen chimney creates a controlled airflow above the cooktop that intercepts these rising fumes before they disperse throughout the room. Understanding smoke movement helps explain why installation position and chimney width are both important for effective extraction.
