Grease filters gradually collect microscopic oil particles generated during cooking. As the filter surface becomes covered with grease, airflow resistance slowly increases. Routine cleaning restores the filter's ability to pass air efficiently while continuing to capture grease effectively. Regular maintenance also helps protect internal chimney components from excessive contamination.
Inspection of grease build-up and filter condition
Baffle/mesh filter removal and deep degreasing
Motor housing and duct-mouth cleaning
Auto-clean function check (if applicable)
Filter refitting and suction test
Final wipe-down and odour check
Kitchen chimneys operate by creating lower air pressure inside the intake area than the surrounding kitchen. This pressure difference encourages smoke, steam and grease particles to move toward the filters instead of spreading across the room. Proper installation, clean filters and unrestricted ducting help maintain stable airflow and efficient smoke extraction during everyday cooking.

Ductless kitchen chimneys recirculate air back into the kitchen after passing it through grease and carbon filters. Unlike ducted models, they do not require an external exhaust pipe. Since air is filtered rather than expelled outside, replacing carbon filters according to the manufacturer's recommendations is important for maintaining odour control and overall performance.
